Internet

A global collection of computer networks which are connected to one another, and which follow a common set of software and communication standards or "protocols." The networks that make up the Internet are operated primarily by governments, telephone companies, and online information providers, such as America Online. These network operators have made legal and technical arrangements with one another providing for information to travel between their networks. The resulting collection of network functions in many regards as a single, worldwide network.
