Client

In common usage, the word "client" is roughly synonymous with "customer." In the world of software, however, it also has a different meaning: a computer (typically a desktop PC) whose functioning depends on the services or resources of another computer (typically a PC-based network server). While these two uses of the word share a common meaning of "one who receives services from another," their distinct uses are often a source of confusion. The term most often is seen in the phrases "Client/Server Technology" and "Thin Client."
